Good Fish Terrible Service Jun 19, 2009

I grew up eating at this restaurant with my family so I'm still partial to it even though the last few times I've been it hadn't exactly met expectations. The service has been HORRIBLE and the fish is good not great. I miss the good old days!

Look, I wouldn't consider myself a food snob by any stretch of the imagination, but I just don't get what people see in this restaurant. I've never gotten anything here that didn't taste like it came out of a lean cuisine box! And I really don't consider it cheap food. My wife and I can eat here for about $20. Save your money and head to the grocery. If you're going to be eating crap that tastes like it came out of a box, you might as well nuke it yourself.

I have eaten at this restaurant plenty of times before Shogun came to town. Their lunch boxes are a good value for the money, but I wouldn't eat the sushi. All sushi is made in the kitchen behind closed doors and usually comes out a little frozen! I don't personally trust any sushi restaurant that doesn't roll it in front of you and judging from the "frozenness" of what I have eaten, I would say it's probably not the freshest fish possible. Staff is very attentive and nice, but if you want sushi let me suggest Shogun. It's about a 1/2 mile North and they'll take good care of you!

This restaurant is by far my favorite in Tupelo. The owners (Jack and Karen) go out of their way to make you feel at home as soon as you walk in the door. In fact by your second visit they will know your name and greet you at the door! Their sushi is by far the freshest in town and the other Japanese cuisine is very good too. The atmosphere is excellent and they don't have a huge dining room, however I've never had a problem getting a table. In short, great food, good times!
